Dr Duane O'Reilly - nMRCGP BM DGM DFSRH DRCOG DCH PgCert Med Ed UK CAA and FAA
Duane qualified in Medicine from the University of Southampton (2004) and has been practicing as an NHS General Practitioner since becoming a member of the Royal College of General Practitioners in 2008. He is an Aeromedical Examiner for both EASA, UK CAA and The Federal Aviation Authority FAA.
He enjoys family medicine and has three children to keep him busy.
Duane has always had a general interest in Aviation and nothing pleases him more than to combine this with his medical practice.
He is quite sporty and participates in triathlons and marathons at home and abroad. The latest was running the Mont Blanc Marathon and London Triathlon. He enjoys activity holidays including cycling and regular ski trips.
Dr Hugh Cummin - MBBS MRCGP BSc (Hons) DAvMed AFOM
Hugh studied Medicine and Aerospace Physiology at Kings College London, qualifying in 2011. He worked in hospital medicine in London before moving to Dorset to train as a General Practitioner and Occupational Physician.
Hugh qualified in Aerospace Physiology with a first-class degree and undertook research with the military looking into the effects of hypoxia on pilot performance. He has also worked at PUCRS Microgravity Centre, Brazil, on a research project investigating methods of cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to be used on the International Space Station. He holds the Diploma in Aviation Medicine and Associateship of the Faculty of Occupational Medicine. Hugh also works at NATS and the Institute of Naval Medicine.

Senior Nurse Tufty Hawkins
Fulmar Hawkins known as Tufty qualified as a registered general nurse from Dorset School of Nursing in 1990. She then worked as a staff nurse for the medical directorate at Royal Bournemouth General Hospital and the former Royal Victoria Hospital – covering general medical with GI high dependency /dermatology/respiratory /rehab and acute admissions unit.
In 2009 she joined Dr Nick Gamper , Dr Gus Hickish and Dr Gordon Hickish at Aviation medicals Wessex limited as their aviation nurse.
Tufty also works in Burton and Bransgore Medical centre as a general practice nurse specialising in respiratory disease management, and she has an interest in general health promotion and learning disabilities health care.
She has qualifications in Asthma management, performing Spirometry and NHS cardiovascular health checks.
2015 saw changes to Aviation Medicals Wessex limited which became a combination of Curlew Scientific Limited – Dr Angus Hickish and Bluesky aviation Medicals limited – Dr Reg Odbert. Tufty continues as the aviation nurse and is responsible for the day to day admin for the four Aeromedical Examiners.
Dr Angus Hickish - MBBS, MRCP, MRCGP, DCH, DObs
Dr Angus Hickish (Gus) qualified from Westminster Hospital Medical School in 1976. He obtained Membership of the Royal College of Physicians in 1979 and Membership of the Royal College of General Practitioners in 1985.
In 1983 he joined Dr Nick Gamper and Dr Gordon Hickish at the Burton and Bransgore Medical Centres; both were Approved Aero-medical examiners. Gus undertook the General Aviation Medicine course at Farnborough in 1988 and the Advanced course in Aviation Medicine a few years later before joining Nick and Gordon as an AME. In 1995 he attended the FAA course in aviation medicine at Oklahoma and became an FAA approved aero-medical examiner.
He retired from General Practice in 2015 but continues to work in the Neurology Departments of Poole General Hospital and Royal Bournemouth Hospital.
